2008 Salary Survey ALA-APA Salary Surveys alaapasalarysurvey06

A special message for Library School Students

Dear Library School Students:

In tough economic times, you need help preparing for job interviews.  Consider asking your career services staff to get access to the ALA-APA Library Salary Database so you'll can negotiate for a fair salary.  The database includes salary data for beginning librarians to directors and can be searched by academic and public library size, type, state and region.  You could get unlimited access to real salary data as you prepare for your job searches.   An annual subscription is only $150 for ALA member institutions.  If you can't persuade your career counselors, you can get a 30-day subscription for only $50 - http://www.ala.org/cfapps/salarysurvey/salarysurveyform/form.cfm.

And speaking of persuasion, I would also be happy to conduct negotiation training or to connect you with a trainer from the WAGE Project (http://www.wageproject.org/content/news/#newsitem1201486372,95401,) which is conducting training for college women.  In preparation, here are links to negotiation articles from the ALA-APA newsletter, Library Worklife, that you can share with your colleagues.  LW is a free member benefit for ALA institutional members (your school library may receive it), but these articles are publicly-accessible.
